周華健 × 張大春 音樂本事 江湖 首支單曲 [潑墨]
「江湖」由周華健和文學大師張大春兩人共同創作完成，共歷時三年，所有的歌詞均由張大春以文言文創作，謹守平仄格律，洋溢文學之美，而音樂部份所有作曲、製作及演唱均由周華健一手打造，跨越了傳統與現代、流行與古典的藩籬，堪稱在國際舞台上為華人音樂樹立了全新指標。周華健則自稱：「和大春合作有如和高手過招，激發出我畢生功力，縱有苦不堪言的瓶頸期，然而完成之後滿足的程度也無與倫比。做完這張專輯，我即使退休亦無憾了！」
「潑墨」是華健在「江湖」的創作過程中卡關最久的一首歌，編曲上亦嚐試了無數的版本，但正是在這首歌的創作過程中，確立了「江湖」整張專輯鮮明的音樂風格。由於「潑墨」的創新和實驗性，多數人乍聽「潑墨」都是感到驚訝，甚至無從定義，這不但已非往日的周華健，甚至也超越我們對「流行音樂」的聆聽經驗。但只要聽過三次，「潑墨」就像是喚醒了我們血脈中的民族基因般，這些音色所描繪的場景，和文字所傳遞的感情，對所有在中華文化中成長的人來說是不言而諭的，而動聽的旋律也像是召喚一般，自然而然地一再於內心響起。

註釋：
皴，讀作「村」，是國畫中「筆法」的意思，歷史中萬千人物，就有如畫布上的各種皴法，在時空中形成了一幅潑墨。
賞析：
潑墨的前奏建立起充滿民族情感的基調，隨之而來一連串的歷史典故則拉開了充滿時間感的畫布，每個人物都像是從歷史長河中傾洩而下的幽魂，曾經以他們獨特的筆法和姿態在歷史的畫布上恣意揮灑，即使並不熟知這些典故，然而我們血液中的民族魂魄，卻將跟著這迎面而來的歷史潑墨，在音樂中砰然跳躍。
這其實是整張作品幾乎已屆完成之時，華健特別提出的一個創作方向，希望用許多名詞看似散落的意象，揮灑出一個不需邏輯連貫，卻又層層堆疊出畫面和想像的歌詞，而大春則提出了「潑墨」這個概念，歌詞完成後，華健在音樂上完全使用當代西方樂器，卻營造出充滿民族特色的情境，狀似平靜但實則前衛激昂。最後大段落的潑墨皴法，用吟唱的方式緩緩再起，就像歷史中所有的故事，最終都是一種意象，隨著時間灰飛煙滅。
